Alright 2012, whatcha got for us…?

So, 2011 is now on the way to the compost heap and we sweep the hearth clean in anticipation of what 2012 will bring. Lots of good stuff on the electronic music horizon, fortunately mostly slated for the early part of the year, which is a good thing as we’ll get to enjoy some good new music in advance of the looming apocalypse in the fall (or is it the spring? We get our apocoli confused).

Our list is topped by Assemblage 23’s Bruise (supposed to be out this fall, but we’ll take it whenever Mr. Shear wants to deliver it, so terrific was his last A23 album); and after hearing sensational advance tracks from Bunny Lake their The Sound Of Sehnsucht is also high on our anticipated list. But these two are far from alone. 2012 looks to be replete with potential awesomeness, to whit:

Some are “going into the studio this year”. These include Depeche Mode, Mesh, Goldfrapp, Nine Inch Nails and Diorama. Does this mean we’ll see new product from them all this year/ Who knows for sure, but betting is good we’ll see something new from some of them which is a great start.

We are expecting new albums from Dragonette, L’ame Immortelle, VCMG (about which we are not nearly as excited as one would have thought, but we’re open to listening…), Future/Perfect, Shiny Toy Guns, Northern Kind, Ayria (whose Plastic Makes Perfect is long, long-awaited and about which we are crazy-excited), Chew Lips, Polly Scattergood, How to Destroy Angels, Miss FD, The Presets, Ultravox (this could be genius or devastating, can see it go either way…), Little Boots, Marina and the Diamonds, Porcelain Black (we are holding our breath for this one, it could fulfil the wonderful promise of the Porcelain and the Tramps material or go to a truly ugly place indeed…), Tying Tiffany  (her Dark Days, White Nights could go in some many exciting directions – this is what you want in a new release:  baited anticipation to see what they come up with next), Marsheaux, Dubstar (could we also see new Client with their new line up…?), and La Roux are slated to share something new – let see if their douchy comments about electronic music are resultant in an album as shitty as their disparagement of our movement or a surprising return to something great).

What are we missing? What else is due this Year of The End (TM Mayans)? Will 2012 be a year of electronic greatness or just another tick off of the calendar? What are you most looking forward to as we turn our eyes into the brutality of January…?

  1. I, for one, would like to be spared anything more from Depeche Mode. Their every additional release detracts from my memory of what they were.
Considering how prolific they’ve been lately, I would expect to hear more in 2012 from Parralox, and welcome it will be.

  2. The Darkest Star Says:

Orbital will also release a new album this Spring.

yes! good one. I’ve also learned via the twitters that Uberbyte has something new cooking in ’12. Going to be a rich year for music…

  3. I’m hoping for the new album by Daybehavor that was suppose to come out last year.

  4. Most anticipated album of the year… mind.in.a.box “Revelations”

  5. synthboy from Canada Says:

Ultravox hands down… the pioneers have aged, but a good songwriter never dies – they just get wiser, balder, and fatter! I’m sure that it would not surpass the tension of Vienna, or the sonic landscape of Rage in Eden – but still, it will be nice to discover new Ultravox textures in the 2010’s decade. Midge still has that soaring voice and the group dynamic is greater than the individuals. Can’t wait till it’s unleashed!

  6. John Bejarano Says:

The two I’m most looking forward to are Northern Kind (which is probably my favorite band in the world right now), and Future/Perfect who are not far behind in that race. I also hear that another of my faves, Tenek is in studio. Not sure if they’ll have a new album in 2012 or shortly thereafter, but that would be welcome as well.

  7. the album of Ultravox will be a masterpiece.. very soon..
